A brief collection of my attempted English renditions of selected Chinese poems, both contemporary and classical. (Each original classical Chinese poem may be presented in both the traditional and simplified forms, followed by the English translation.) Comments and suggested amendments welcome. (But I may not have the time to respond to every comment.) I am a follower of Andrew W F Wong's excellent blog "Classical Chinese Poems in English".

2014 年: 中日甲午戰爭 Zhōngrì Jiǎwǔ Zhànzhēng
爆發 120 周年。

Welcome! Baby Year 2014:
You know, son (yes, sonny, for you're growing up v fast and at the
end of 12 short months you shall retire as a white-hair old man) 120 years
ago (from 1 August 1894 to 17 April 1895) the First Sino-Japanese
War was launched by Japan -- an emergent power after the succesful
Meiji restoration -- against Qing-dynasty China to primarily wrestle
control over Korea.
以史為鑒:
前事不忘,後事之師。
Forget not major events in history -–
They’re mirror-pointers for humanity.
