GUAN SHU YOU GAN: No. 2 (of 2)
"Floating the Boats"
-- by Zhu Xi (1130-1200)
-- Translated by Frank C Yue
Last night by spring floods the river was swelled and spray'd;
Light as a feather now, the heavy warship sway.
The pulling, strains, and grunts were hardly the right way;
Mid-stream, enlightened boat glide effortless today!

A brief collection of my attempted English renditions of selected Chinese poems, both contemporary and classical. (Each original classical Chinese poem may be presented in both the traditional and simplified forms, followed by the English translation.) Comments and suggested amendments welcome. (But I may not have the time to respond to every comment.) I am a follower of Andrew W F Wong's excellent blog "Classical Chinese Poems in English".

Last night the Spring tide storms the river side,
The giant warship drifts like a feather light.
Pushing and tracting is always a waste of time,
Today, the boat glides freely in the water fine.
