                  萬古精忠貫日月
     
                 千秋義勇壯山河


COUPLET AT A GUAN DI (GUAN YU) TEMPLE

Throughout the ages, his Firmness and Loyalty
Shine bright as the Moon and Sun;
For eons, his Bravery and Sincerity
With the hills and rivers is one. 


Notes by Translator:
(On the last line above, why "one":)

1. 上聯「日月」指 關羽 精忠義勇浩氣，直冲「天庭」，道出靈性的一面。

2. 下聯「山河」= 家國。三國時，關羽為斬惡人而出走，為結拜兄弟，為一統神州而戰，死而後已。

3. 滿清帝皇別有用心，把 關羽 的「選擇性優點」無限放大，廣建祠廟，香火鼎盛，長期以來，關羽 的精忠義勇已深入民心，所以如此英雄形象，已和家國山河，合而為一，此所謂 "one" 也。thus,  "For eons, his bravery and sincerity
                                       With the hills and rivers is one."
