Lonely and cold the night,

Lonely and cold the dew,

Alone, on the sculpted railing leaning,

To the wild geese cries a-listening.

Through window screens the Autumn 

Moon shines bright.

Sighing because of lonely drifting,

Now accustomed to lonely drifting,

The whole mansion is filled with the 

flute’s sad tunes;

But mutual yearnings won’t be satisfied 

soon!
