Wither'd grove flowers and Spring's fading hues

TUNE: XIANG JIAN HUAN: "Happy

Together"/

WU YE TI: "Crows Cawing in the Night" II

TITLE: Drowned in Love!

-- Li Yu (937-978)

-- Translated by Frank C Yue

Wither'd grove flowers and Spring's

fading hues are gone!

Too soon, too soon they come... and pass

on.

Cold morning rains and night breeze are

here, still!

Down powder'd fair faces tears spill,

I'll stay and drink with your bright eyes --

When, again, will you e'er come by ?

As always, life's griefs and woes never

cease --

Like the endless great River rushing

east!

Version 'B' for

"Tears of rouge down fair petals spill,

Bid me stay: Drinking I can't defy.

When, again, will you e'er come by?"

  1. Hi Frank, allow me to place my rendition:

A poetry with tune “Happy to see each other again” by Li Yu, Tang Dynasty(South Tang) Translated by Alan Ma, July 2, 2014.

Forest flowers withered and in Spring once again blossoms show,

How hastily they come and go!

Can’t help it at dawn with the cold rain,

Or by night the chilly wind but cannot refrain.

Tears wash down a rouge face, together let’s get drunk,

When will I see you another round?

It’s always for life to have regret never ceased,

As River water flows ever east.
