我言秋日勝春朝。

Since the old days, Autumns are lonely, empty -- people say;
But for me Autumn's always better than any Spring day.
A single crane shoots through clouds up to the boundless, blue sky;
O With it, all my poetic sentiments soar as high.

1 As of old when autumn falls, themes forlorn men bemoan,

2 But I say this autumn day excels any spring-morn known.

3 Flapping, soaring is a crane, through clouds in the sunlit sky,

4 Oh how my muse of poesy, to the heavens azure has flown!

<《秋詞二首》的可貴，在於詩人對秋天和秋色的感受與眾不同，一反過去文人悲秋的傳統，唱出了昂揚的勵志高歌。
 
　　詩人深深懂得古來悲秋的實質是志士失志，對現實失望，對前途悲觀，因而在秋天只看到蕭條，感到寂寥，死氣沉沉。詩人同情他們的遭遇和處 境，但不同意他們的悲觀失望的情感。他針對這種寂寥之感，偏說秋天比那萬物萌生、欣欣向榮的春天要好，強調秋天並不死氣沉沉，而是很有生氣。他指引人們看 那振翅高舉的鶴，在秋日晴空中，排雲直上，矯健淩厲，奮發有為，大展鴻圖。顯然，這只鶴是獨特的、孤單的。但正是這只鶴的頑強奮鬥，衝破了秋天的肅殺氛 圍，為大自然別開生面，使志士們精神為之抖擻。這只鶴是不屈志士的化身，奮鬥精神的體現。所以詩人說，“便引詩情到碧霄”。“詩言志”，“詩情”即志氣。 人果真有志氣，便有奮鬥精神，便不會感到寂寥。... >
