陸游 當年萬里覓封侯,匹馬戍梁州。 In years gone by -- ten thousand miles I travell'd, to seek Honour mine;

【訴衷情】     南宋 •  陸游
當年萬里覓封侯,匹馬戍梁州。
關河夢斷何處?塵暗舊貂裘。

胡未滅,鬢先秋,淚空流。
此生誰料,心在天山。身老滄洲。

TUNE: SU ZHONG QING : "EXPRESSING MY INNERMOST FEELINGS"
-- by LU YOU (1125-1210)

-- Translated by Frank C Yue

In years gone by -- ten thousand miles
I travell'd, to seek Honour mine;
Alone on horseback, O Liangzhou,
I was there to guard thou.
Of border passes, rivers -- Where's my broken dream gone?
Only dust gathers on my old sable fur uniform.

The Tartars are still there, as before --
Now, my temple hair's hoar;
Out in vain my tears pour.
To fore-tell such a life, who could dare?
My heart's at Tian Shan frontier there;
My ageing body, at Cangzhou, here!

Note:

Cangzhou: 滄洲 a place by the sea in northern Hebei province. Generally a classical allusion to a secluded place where hermits live.
