杜甫 兩個黃鸝鳴翠柳, 一行白鷺上青天。 Two yellow nightingales on the green willow sang side by side;

【絕句】     杜甫

兩個黃鸝鳴翠柳,    一行白鷺上青天。
窗含西嶺千秋雪,    門泊東吳萬里船。

JUJUE : "(7-character) Quatrain"
-- by DU FU (712-770)
-- Translated by Frank C Yue

Two yellow nightingales on the green willow sang side by side;
The wind, a string of white herons up the azure skies did ride.
O'er thousands-year-old western range snow-caps my window por'd;
O, How I longed to journey ten thousand miles east in the boats moored by my door!

  1. the last sentence is wrong, it's the author saw the boats from "dong wu" that traveled ten thousand miles to the place, the city where he is at! he DIDN'T "longed to travel“.

  2. also, not nightingale birds, they are Oriolus, or more commonly known as Black-naped oriole (for the yellow collor), or just Oriole!

  3. third sentence is snow from Mount West.

  4. CORRECT version of translation for the Poem,

    A Heptasyllabic Quatrain by Du Fu

    Two yellow orioles sing in the green willows,
    A flock of white egrets surge up the blue sky,
    In my window is framed with the thousand year snow of Mount West,
    In front of my door are the ships that traveled ten thousand miles from faraway Wu.
